Split " Mediterranean Flower"

Locals often nickname their city as "Mediterranean flower" or "The most beautiful city in the world".
Many famous Croatian sports people are born in Split, so locals often nickname their city as "The sportiest city in the world" too.

One thing is certain: Split is an ideal place for your holiday in Croatia !

Split has a lot to offer : Culture, sea, sun, beaches, promenades , sports and nightlife
On the one hand there is the Diocletian palace (UNESCO Heritage Site) - The historic center of Split was built around the ruins of the Roman palace.
The palace has well-preserved main streets, the Cardo and Decumanus. The Roman palace was enriched with some Gothic buildings and buildings from the Renaissance Era, which form a perfect match with the palace. The palace has four monumental gates : Porta Aurea ( Zlatna Vrata , golden gate) , Porta Argenta ( Srebrna vrata , Silver Gate), Porta Ferrea ( Željezna vrata , iron gate ) and Porta Aenea ( Mjedena vrata , brass gate).
The center of Diocletian's Palace is the peristyle ( Peristil ) , a rectangular courtyard which is decorated by columns and guarded by sphinxes.
It's probably the best preserved Roman palace in general, which is freely accessible.
The St. Duje Cathedral - is Originally built around 305 AD as a mausoleum of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, the oldest cathedral - building in the world .
The cathedral is a very successful blend of Roman temple and a Catholic church. The beautiful cathedral bell tower offers a magnificent panoramic view of Split and the nearby islands of Brac , Solta and Hvar.
The Riva is the main town promenade in Split. Since 2007, Riva has a new , "modern" look.
Locals enjoy here in the sunshine under the palm trees and sun sails their coffee. An absolute " must " for every visitor of Split.
Visit the "green lung of Split ." - Marjan - a hill in the west of Split.
Marjan is a haven for many people looking for a natural stress reliever. It is a great place for long walks, jogging and cycling.
A perfect place for sports enthusiasts.
The highest point on Marjan forms the Telegrin, about 174m above sea level high. It offers a magnificent panoramic view of Split.
The cliffs in the south are popular to mountaineers. There you will find the beautiful church of St. Jerome and the " Gospe od Betlema " church ( Our Lady of Bethlehem ).
The St. Nicholas Church is located on the eastern side of Marjan .
Marjan is also surrounded by beautiful pebble and stone beaches. Very popular are the beaches Obojena, Kaštelet, Kašjuni and the pine forest beach Bene.
The Bene beach features a fine restaurant and a leisure center .
Sunbathing and swimming on the beach of Bačvice.
The most popular beach in Split is the Bačvice beach. The sandy beach shelves gently into the sea making it ideal for children and non-swimmers.
Here Picigin will gladly played, a ball game for the split is widely known.
Cafes, bars, clubs and restaurants make the place a magnet for revelers.
In addition to the Poljud Stadium, home of the football club HNK Hajduk Split, which hosted the Mediterranean Games in 1979, the European Athletics Championships in 1990 and the Ultra Music Festival, Split has the Spaladium Arena. This was the venue for the World Handball Championships in 2009. The Sports Centre Gripe was home of former basketball team Jugoplastika, which has achieved great success in the 80s on a national and international stage.
Players like Toni Kukoc and Dino Rada later became stars in the American NBA league.
Additional points of Split is one of the old city cemetery Sustipan.
Situated on the seafront between the yacht harbor and the beach Zvoncac this place is now a walking site and photo backdrop for newly married.
The green market in the east of the old town of Split is the largest open-air market in Europe. Here you will find fresh fruit and vegetables, but also flowers and dairy products.
North of the market along the eastern wall of Diocletian's Palace leads to the Đardin (garden) , a well-kept city park with fountain.
Between the Đardin and the Golden Gate is the Satue Gregory of Nin , which was designed by the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic :
Your wish will come true when you touch the big toe of the statue and make a wish.
Dalmatia is known for its world-class wines, but for visitors in Split it is a "must" to taste a soda drink called Pipi and Orela that is created by local beverage manufacturers Dalmacijavino.
There is also the Dalmatian ham Pršut, the Dalmatian pašticada with Gnocchi and the famous local delicacies Soparnik which should not be missed.
